Desert Dry

Desert Dry
How do desert plants survive in hot dry climates?

well is a question at school i cant answer !!were learning about photosynthesis!!any web sites the better

cacti leaves have become the spines over time to
1. reduce water loss (bad in the desert)
2. protect the plant from getting eaten by water loving animals

- Cacti have a tick waxy cuticle on the stem to prevent water loss
- stomata are sunken into the stem to again preven water loss
- store water in the stems to enable it to continue photosynthesis even in extremely dry conditions
- have roots near to the surface to get as much water when it rains or have very deep tap roots to get water deeper in the soil.

Five Steps to End Dry Skin

The skin feels soft and pliable, which must be fully hydrated. For Protection of the outer layer of the skin to lose water to the skin's sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum. Tallow is fat, sugars, waxes and other natural chemicals from forming a protective barrier against water evaporates.

If the skin will not have enough sebum, it loses water and feels dry. If environmental factors to avoid causing further evaporation of water, taxes on the ability of sebum water loss, the skin begins to fade and make it look just like a Plum.

Xerosis is another name for unusual dryness of the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It is also by some as the normal hardening of aging tissue considered. I do not believe that the tightening of the tissue at any age is normal. However, the xerosis is a common problem, and usually one or more of these are the following:

• Decreased production of sebum in older people is often a factor, because the number of sebaceous glands increases diminish with age. Older people are also more likely to have reduced blood flow to the skin also leads to the production of sebum to be lower.

• Extreme weather events can natural barrier function of the skin cause being overwhelmed, like a hot, dry climate, which causes moisture to evaporate. This is usually the reason live for dry skin among people in the desert. Excessively dry indoor air can also dry the skin, primarily caused by humans, the air heating forced to use. This is sometimes itchy as "winter." Athletes often are exposed to wind, sun and make the evaporation, but also get the swimmers dry Skin due to the chemical composition of pool water actually draws moisture from the skin.

• The most common cause for the loss of existing Excessive sebum production is washing or bathing, for washing a lot during the washing or harsh soaps that dissolve the protective sebum. Sometimes this leads to dry Skin into the body. Especially in athletes, or anyone with a shower several times a day. But it is often without affecting only the hands, such as household cleaners, health workers, Housewives and deal with food, should wash their hands often.

People with diabetes or allergies, which often affected by dry skin. Dry skin is one of the side effects of some medications, especially some acne products that are applied directly to the skin. Less frequently, it may be a symptom of hypothyroidism, renal insufficiency or Sjogren's syndrome.

Usually people will notice your skin flaky and slightly more wrinkled than normal, but sometimes the only symptom is itching. Sometimes The symptoms may be worsened during the winter months, especially if you spend much time indoors.

For dry skin, you can usually the Diagnosis for right now. You can start skin care through analysis of its normal routine. Do you often have long, hot baths or showers? Repeatedly showers day or rub the skin with harsh soaps? You have a job that requires frequent washing of hands?

Then consider environmental factors, both indoors and outdoors. Where you live, it's hot or cold, it's wet or dry? If you are indoors during the winter months without a humidifier? When outdoors, do not protect Your skin with clothing or sunscreen on exposed surfaces? Have you ever had a moisturizer?

If you properly take care of your skin, scaly and itchy dry skin should improve within a week or two. In many cases, the proper care of the skin moisturizer to start your skin smooth and supplier of minutes.

If you do not take proper care of the skin, dry skin can become a chronic problem, the thickening of the skin can lead to cracking and bleeding. Moreover You can increase the risk of skin infection.

These five simple steps can prevent the skin to dry completely:

1. A shower or bath every day. Washing with warm (not hot) water with a soap containing either a high fat or glycerin. Do not waste more than 10 to 15 Minutes in the shower, and avoid washing.

2. If you are an athlete, shower quickly. Take you use mild soap and warm water to their own "fitness" brands are often hard.

3. When you are finished, apply moisturizer while skin is still damp. Petroleum jelly or a thick cream is best, the moisture in the skin Seal.

4. If you do not wear protective clothing due to hot weather or game rules shall apply a protective sunscreen with a moisturizer. If you are a Swimmer, apply a thin layer of waterproof gel before entering the pool.

5. Use a humidifier to raise the level of moisture, when the air is dry in the winter months

Let's face it, the Southwestern Backyard is not the same as any other backyard. Try to plant a nice lawn, and you cultivate an expanse of brown crusty dead stuff. Or you will run up a water bill worthy of an Olympic swimming pool.

So how in the world do you make the most of what the desert offers to you? What can make the Southwestern Backyard special? Let's just give it a shot! Come with me to my backyard, and I'll show you how easy it is to add Southwestern pizzazz to that dry expanse of desert floor.

First, let me give you a list of seven great ideas to help you plan the perfect Southwestern Backyard:

* Desert Plants

* Hardscaping with rocks

* Dry Creek Bed

* Ramada

* Kiva fireplace

* Southwestern décor

* House jewelry

Desert Plants - Learn here how Xeriscaping can create beauty with plants needing little water. Such plants not only save water, but provide cover and food for desert wildlife. It's vitally important to provide for the desert wildlife due to the encroachment of humans on their homes.

Hardscaping with Rocks - Rocks are not just rocks! Here we see that rocks can enhance our Southwestern Backyard and create beauty in our harsh environment. Native rocks are always best. Make use of what's readily available and your backyard will look like a part of the land, instead of warring with the surrounding environment.

Dry Creek Bed - Now make use of those rocks in a unique, Southwestern way by creating a Dry Creek Bed. No water needed for this little technique, but it creates the effect of water by insinuating the presence of the magical fluid. Erosion control is the key here because in the few brief moments when water does invade, there is danger of losing precious soil to the deluge.

Ramada - Unique to the Southwest is this rustic type of shelter, in many circumstances created with the castoff branches of Ocotillo or Mesquite. Don't let it fool you, though, cool shade and a comfortable place to sit and relax can be found beneath the lowly Ramada.

Kiva Fireplace - Equally at home inside or outdoors in your backyard, the Kiva Fireplace creates warmth, a cozy place to relax after a hard day, and a great place to roast your chilies. Some call this unique fireplace a beehive fireplace, but all the same it's a unique and memorable addition to your Southwestern Backyard.

Southwestern Décor - Add a few ristras, a couple examples of Mexican pottery, and a wagon wheel or two and your Southwestern Backyard will announce to your visitors that, yes, they are in the Southwest.

House Jewelry - Now here's something you may not have heard of before. House Jewelry is a term I coined myself to describe the practice of decorating the exterior walls of the home with distinctly Southwestern artwork. Depictions of the Sun, desert wildlife such as lizards and quail, and even the exuberant Kokopelli earn a place of honor on the Southwestern Home's humble adobe walls.

Look around you. Everywhere in the Southwest you find wonderful examples of creativity and unique ideas for the Southwestern Backyard. No longer is it necessary to consign your backyard to being dull and lifeless. Create a little zing! Have some fun, and make your Southwestern Backyard something to talk about.
